Slowly, slowly we begin again…
ARTIST STATEMENT
“Slowly, slowly we begin again…” is an evening length dance performance choreographed and performed by artist in residence, Katherine M Yatsko exploring her transition into motherhood through the lens of a snail.
Through immersive scenery and an ethereal soundscape, the audience was transported into a snail’s story; A story of discovering what it means to become home to yourself as you become home to someone else.
Learning to slow down and adapt to the surrounding environment is an integral part to becoming a parent for the first time and Katherine has found solace in exploring that experience through this other world; a world on the forest floor surrounded by oak trees and moss… a world of crickets, snails, and slugs…
As the story unspirals, Katherine comes home to herself again and again and again, filling her shell with what matters most to her as she realizes that she, like a snail, can take her home with her wherever she goes.
