Exhibition Opening for Victoria Naftal

Step inside the remarkable world of Artist in Residence Victoria Naftal, an award-winning puppet fabricator whose unusual creations blur the boundaries between sculpture and natural history.

Naftal crafts insect specimens, meticulously sculpted from clay and wire, which are so convincing they are often mistaken for real entomological collections. Alongside these small natural marvels are extraordinary handcrafted puppet characters that evoke the rich visual tradition of JJ Grandville.

During this exhibition, guests will be invited into Naftal's creative practice, following the evolution of a puppet from its earliest wire armature through the layered process of sculpting, fabrication, and character development. She will discuss how discarded and overlooked objects become the foundation for imaginative new beings, revealing the unexpected usefulness of everyday upcycled materials.
