ARTIST STATEMENT

A toad pauses at her bedside, lost in thought. A porcupine dithers around his kitchen, contemplating a snack. Two mice are busy in their study late into the night. This whimsical collection of photographs explores the lives of anthropomorphized creatures in their imagined homes. Live animals were invited to make themselves at home within intricately styled dollhouse rooms. Peering into their small worlds, watching them engage as we do in the daily routines of life, makes a poignant case for empathy, coexistence and conservation. At a time where rapid land development and even landscaping encroach upon the habitats and food supply of these seemingly insignificant creatures, we are reminded of the impact our actions have on the delicate balance of our ecosystem where even the most despised pests have a role to play. It is a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings, a moment to pause and reflect on the importance of preserving biodiversity and respecting the homes of the smallest inhabitants of our planet.
